South Coventry Township is a township in Chester County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,895 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 7.5 square miles (19.3 km²), all of it land.

There are three main historical and unincorporated villages within the Township; Bucktown, Coventryville, and Pughtown.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,895 people, 690 households, and 529 families residing in the township. The population density was 253.6 people per square mile (97.9/km²). There were 721 housing units at an average density of 96.5/sq mi (37.3/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.47% White, 0.63% African American, 0.16% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.21% from other races, and 0.42% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.69% of the population.

There were 690 households out of which 34.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.8% were married couples living together, 4.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.3% were non-families. 18.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.69 and the average family size was 3.09.

In the township the population was spread out with 26.0% under the age of 18, 4.5% from 18 to 24, 30.8% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 98.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.5 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $62,857, and the median income for a family was $75,157. Males had a median income of $51,063 versus $33,482 for females. The per capita income for the township was $28,956. About 3.2% of families and 3.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1.0% of those under age 18 and 13.1% of those age 65 or over.
