[edit] Current status

South County is designated to serve grades 7-12, similar to its mother school Hayfield from which many of its students were drawn. In order to prevent disruption in students' senior years, 2005-06 seniors were allowed to remain at Hayfield, Lake Braddock Secondary School, Lee High School, or other secondary school they were currently enrolled in to finish their secondary education and maintain continuity during the college application process. South County will remain a secondary school until a new middle school, which is currently under development, is built to take away its 7th and 8th graders, at which point it will become a high school.

[edit] Athletics

Sports teams at South County, although not very successful on the whole in their inaugural year, have made progress and achieved a number of accolades. The cross country teams went to regionals. The baseball team won districts the first two years the school was open, and in 2007 made it to the state semi-finals. The softball team won district titles in 2007 and 2008. The girls tennis team won the district title in 2008.

[edit] Academic programs

SCSS has the following FCPS Programs:

As well, DECA sent members to the international competition in Florida. One group won second place in the category of Ecommerce Business Plan.

The theatre department is under the direction of Mrs. Sherry Adams-Johnson. In their first Cappies Musical at South County, "Thoroughly Modern Millie" received 12 nominations, and 4 wins, including Best Musical.
