South Armagh Republican Action Force

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The South Armagh Republican Action Force (SARAF) was a name used by Irish Republican guerrilla unit who operated at various times in the Northern Irish Troubles. It was suspected that SARAF was a cover name for the Provisional IRA South Armagh Brigade.[1]

On January 5, 1976 they claimed the Kingsmill massacre, when ten Protestant men were killed just outside the village of Kingsmill in South Armagh, Northern Ireland.[2] They said it was in retaliation for the killing locally of six catholics, three members of the Reavey family and three members of the O'Dowd family, the day before. [3]

The SARAF claimed the killing of four Protestant civilians, who were shot dead during a gun attack on Tullyvallen Orange Hall, Newtownhamilton, 1 September 1975. [4]
