The fifth edition of the South American Championship was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina from October 2 to October 30, 1921.
The participating countries were Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. Chile was also invited but withdrew due to internal problems in the team.
Paraguay's debut came with a bang: defeated the previous edition's champions Uruguay by two goals to one.
