South 65 (also spelled South Sixty-Five) was an American country music band which also featured elements of a boy band.[1] Between 1997 and their disbanding in 2001, South 65 charted several minor singles on the U.S. country music charts, in addition to recording two albums on Atlantic Records. Former member Lance Leslie is now a member of Rio Grand, another country music group.[2]

[edit] Biography

South Sixty-Five's origins trace to Delious Kennedy, a member of the R&B band All-4-One, who wanted to form the band. He first picked brothers Brenton and Stephen Parker, and later held a nationwide talent search to find the other three members. All five members were in place by 1997.[1] A year later, the group's eponymous debut album was released, reaching a peak of #70 on the Billboard Top Country Albums charts. The album produced three minor chart hits.

In 2001, South 65 released its second album on Atlantic.[1] Titled Dream Large, the album included a cover of Charlie Rich's 1973 single "The Most Beautiful Girl"; this cover peaked at #54 on the country charts. The same year, Doug Urie left the group for a solo career; South 65 disbanded not long afterward.[citation needed]
