SouthSide Works is an open-air retail, office, entertainment, and residential complex (often referred to as a lifestyle center) located on the South Side of the city of Pittsburgh and just across the Monongahela River from the Pittsburgh Technology Center and the University of Pittsburgh. It can most easily be accessed by I-376. The $300 million complex opened in stages between 2002 and 2004 and offers more than 34 acres of shops, offices, hotels and apartments. The retail alone will have over 300,000 square feet (30,000 m²) of space.

The complex sits on the famous "Southside Works" Jones and Laughlin Steel Company plant that helped win two world wars and make the United States a great industrial power. With the advent of cheaper foreign steel starting in the late 1970s and accelerating in the 1980s the massive mill and factory complex was idled in the mid-1980s. For almost a decade the site was vacant until a city/county task force revitalized the area just south of downtown, and Pittsburgh-based Oxford Development Company (in conjunction with University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) constructed the state-of-the-art and internationally acclaimed UPMC Sports Performance Complex on the most eastern boundary of the site. Soon the National Football League Pittsburgh Steelers and the NCAA Division I University of Pittsburgh Panthers football teams both took out leases next to the sports medicine complex to build cutting edge training facilities and fields. With some of the pillars of the region in the University, the NFL franchise and the major college sports teams all being active in the area, the city and county were able to build on that foundation to make the former industrial site attractive to retailers and office developers.

A 38,000 sq ft (3,500 m²) fitness center is also being considered as well as the completion of close to 350,000 sq ft (33,000 m²) of 2nd and 3rd floor office space above the complex. A riverfront pavilion is also planned for hosting smaller concerts by touring groups as well as the local Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

A 200 room hotel and 150 unit condo are also planned for the site.

Also, Hofbräuhaus is to be built behind The Cheescake Factory. It is scheduled to be open in the Spring of 2008.
