The Soul2Soul II Tour 2006 was a co-headlining concert tour between country music singers, and husband and wife, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.

The tour was a reprise of the couple's very successful 2000 Soul2Soul Tour.

Hill and McGraw first announced the Soul2Soul II Tour on January 6, 2006. It quickly became one of the fastest-selling concert events of the year, with additional shows added in 15 cities due to high ticket demand. Ticket sales passed the one million mark with the one-millionth fan attending the first Soul2Soul II Concert in Los Angeles at the STAPLES Center. The lucky fan was given a car as a thank you gift by Tim and Faith.

The tour began on April 21, 2006 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, and after 73 shows concluded on September 3, 2006 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

On May 11, Hill and McGraw announced that the July 5 concert in New Orleans would benefit Gulf Coast hurricane relief efforts. From the beginning, Hill and McGraw have expressed a criticism of government response to Hurricane Katrina and the other Gulf Coast hurricanes. Hill is a native of Mississippi and McGraw is a native of Louisiana. All of the net proceeds of the concert are going to be contributed to Katrina relief efforts in those two states. Tickets for the concert went on sale several days later and within 30 minutes, the 17,000 available seats had sold out.

In a July issue of Billboard Magazine, Hill and McGraw stated that they would like to extend the tour into 2007 so they could visit cities in the US and Canada that they were unable to attend during the original leg of the tour. If this happens, the continuation of the tour would likely begin around the same time the first leg of the tour began, to accommodate Hill and McGraw's children's school schedule.

The final gross total for the Soul2Soul II Tour came to $88.6 million, beating out Madonna's Confessions Tour by nearly $3 million in the United States. As of early September, Faith and Tim hold the spot for the top-grossing concert tour of the year. However, The Rolling Stones still have 18 dates left on their A Bigger Bang Tour, and if they keep averaging what they have been for their shows, their final total is expected to be $115 million. However, Soul2Soul II will still be the #2 tour for the year. It is also the top-grossing country tour of all time, topping the previous record gross set by Kenny Chesney's Somewhere in the Sun Tour in 2005 at just under $62 million.

In February 2007, it was announced that the couple would return to the road in the summer of 2007 with Soul2Soul 2007 due to the immense success of Soul2Soul II.

[edit] The stage and the show

The tour features a multi-million dollar, unique in-the-round stage set. A circular platform in the center of the arena floor is surrounded by a larger circle beneath it, where the band plays; vertical scrims can fall down to enclose this area. Extending in all four directions from the circles are long, wide catwalks with mass-motion video screens embedded within them, with fans seated on both sides and at the ends of the catwalks.

The show, which lasts from two and a half to two and three-quarters hours, is structured as a set by Faith Hill, followed by a set by Tim McGraw; in general audiences respond more strongly to McGraw's performance, hence Hill is placed in the opening spot. Before, in between, and after the individual sets, the two perform together. The lyrical themes and the physical staging of the duet songs follow a connected thread throughout the course of the show, starting at one end of the emotional spectrum and ending at the other.

Hill's performance emphasizes her varied country, pop, and gospel flavorings, with arrangements that showcase her vocal control over her lower register. McGraw's performance is more oriented towards traditional country, and evinces a stronger stage presence. Hill's band plays from the start of the show through the second joint appearance, after which McGraw's Dancehall Doctors backing outfit takes over for the balance of the show.

The concerts even feature hints of a rock element, from a few of McGraw's arrangements to Hill's guitarist's U2 textures to the Who-like introductory music to the presence of KISS and Blue Öyster Cult in the pre-show music.
