- Dec 29: Former Guantanamo Bay inmate and convicted Al-Qaeda operative David Hicks is released from Yatala Labour Prison.
- Dec 29: As temperatures rise across the state, Country Fire Service issues its highest level alert to volunteers, due to the chance of bushfires (pictured).
- Dec 28: The Australian Greenhouse Office's latest figures show that South Australia has the second lowest greenhouse gas emissions per capita in the nation.
- Dec 27: An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale shakes the Flinders Ranges town of Hawker.
- Dec 22: Heavy rains fall on much of the state, including inland regions like Tarcoola, bringing relief to areas crippled with drought and stringent water restrictions.
- Dec 21: Prime Minister Kevin Rudd appoints South Australian politicians Penny Wong and Warren McCann as co-chairs of a national working group on climate change and water, whose major objective is to ease negotiations between South Australia and Victoria regarding the Murray River.
