Image talk:Southcrestlogo.jpg
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I would like to request the cancellation of the deletion of the image I uploaded because I believe that the issue on its copyright / licensing was misrepresented by me unintentionally due to my ignorance of placing license tags, being new to Wikipedia. The picture is actually a collective property of our Friendster group at http://photos-321.friendster.com/e1/photos/group/12/39/109321/29802629116l.jpg which anyone is free to use; I thought of it as that I could say it's mine. In any case I have made mistakes or violations in fixing the licensing tags of this image, I sincerely ask for an apology. Please inform me on what to do so I may not repeat this again. Thank you.

- No need to apologise! Please can you answer these questions?
- Who originally created the image? (name of an individual person please) They personally hold copyright of the image, (unless they signed it away)
- When you say it is free for anyone to use, has the creator of the image released it into the public domain or put it under a free license? If so, please can you provide a link to a website which proves this?
- The link you posted to the Friendster just shows the image. Is there a link to a page describing the image? That will provide more useful information.
- After you reply, I'll help you decide how to deal with the image on Wikipedia. Thanks Papa November 11:44, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
Thank you sir. In response to your questions:
-
- As far as I know, my friend Rogelio Tulang Jr. (who created our Friendster group) owns the picture. He has placed there supposedly for anyone to use; he doesn't actually care about it, so I assume he has released it to the public domain.
- I do not know any link which states that he has placed it under free license; knowing him, he doesn't take the time to care about it. I would also like to note that I am still 17 years old and he's still about 15; I hope it explains why we don't know much about these copyright rules.
- There's no website as of now which describes the image; he owns it because as I could remember, he scanned it from a leaflet in our school which I believe is not extant anymore.
Having seen what much fuss this uploading of the image did, I am actually thinking of letting this image get deleted and I'll just upload a colored version next time, which I own since two years ago; please help me decide on this. Hope these statements helped. Thank you.

OK, thanks for answering. First, the bad news is that it sounds like the school originally created the image, and your friend only made a copy of it by scanning from a leaflet. The school still owns copyright on this image if they originally created it. The same thing applies to a colour version. The good news is that you can still use it on Wikipedia under a claim of "fair use". I've put everything you need on the image page, but you need to fill in the fair use rationale. Read this article then fill in the missing information on your image description page and it should be fine. Let me know if you need help. Thanks Papa November 07:38, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
