Sotajumala

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sotajumala (Wargod) is a death metal band hailing from Finland, formed in 1998 by Tomi Otsala and Kosti Orbinski. In 2000, the bands lineup was solidified with the additions of J. Häkkinen, A. Romo, Pete Lapio and H. Lastu.

The first promo-CD was the "Sotajumala MCD", which was recorded over a 2 day period in September of 2001. Guitarist P. Lapio left the band shortly thereafter. In 2002, Sotajumala toured much of Sweden and Finland, gathering creative steam along the way. This touring was a bit too much of an overload on original singer H. Lastu, who left the band in the late summer of 2002, due to personal issues and a general lack of time to devote toward the band. Shortly after Lastu's departure, singer '105' took over the vocal duties, and the band remains the same as of current.

In 2002 the band once again hit the studio, and released the "Panssarikolonna MCD", featuring 4 tracks of blazing fast and brutal metal.

Sotajumala returned to the studio in 2003 and recorded their first full length album, "Death Metal Finland".

In mid 2004, 105 has announced that he intends to leave the band. Although no replacement has been chosen, Mynni Luukkainen has agreed to do session vocals until a full time vocalist can be found.

Musically, the band tends to lean toward the Cannibal Corpse/Florida style of Death Metal. Lyrical themes revolve around the military history of Finland and war stories in general. The band stresses, "Though the lyrics have their roots in war, they are not meant to provoke or create an image of fascist beliefs. So, Sotajumala does not take any stand with our lyrics to political or other ideologies."
