[edit] Notability

Major foreshore park in city foreshore enusres notability. See references if any further queries.ROxBo 03:29, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Notability is only established if it has received significant coverage in reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject. The references at this stage are not independent of the subject and the second reference is not about the park but about the Soroptimists. Cheers, Mattinbgn\ talk 03:59, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for adding the link to Notability which I have just read, but it is kind of hard to apply to geography, which exists but is often not a recipient of "significant coverage." A comparative article would be The Strand, Townsville, which has only a single reference relating to the addition of a "9 metre high 'Space Net'". A similar article might be Nelly Bay, Queensland, which has no references. Nonetheless it do not think either of these 2 articles notability should be questioned - although a request for more references would be justified.ROxBo 12:44, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
Notability is not judged by current references within an article but the potential secondary sources, there are obviously hundreds (or maybe thousands) of references to the Strand. As a fairly big and well developed park which will be linked to the Strand once the Kissing Point development goes ahead I think this park is notable enough for its own article, although there certainly are higher profile parks in Townsville which don't have an article yet.
