[edit] .hack//Sign

In .hack//Sign, Sora acts as one of the antagonists, mainly for Tsukasa's friends, though he hardly has contact with Tsukasa himself. Sora is an irritation, particularly to Mimiru, who can't stand being near someone she considers creepy, and BT, who uses Sora for information and vice versa, though she is usually on the receiving end of his Player Killer activities. He gets involved early on, searching for fame as the one who discovered the Key of the Twilight, but also planning to become Tsukasa's friend.

At the end of the series, he betrays Morganna Mode Gone in order to let Tsukasa, Subaru and Mimiru escape with Aura from her domain. This results in him being Data Drained by Skeith as the player behind Sora falls in a coma.

[edit] .hack//Zero

.hack//Zero reveals Sora's fate between .hack//Sign and the .hack games. Acting as one of the main characters, he is seen wandering The World, covered in rags and with no recollection of past events.[1] He acts as a vessel for Skeith to travel freely and is instinctively drawn to Aura and Carl (the protagonist of the novel). Unfortunately, .hack//Zero has yet to be completed and no one has any idea of how Sora got from this situation to the one he faces in the .hack games.

[edit] .hack//Liminality

Mai Minase catches a glimpse of Sora/Skeith while exploring the game with Tokuoka. Sora transforms fully into Skeith to attack them. Fortunately Mai, with her trained ears is able to hear the change and leave the game before he reaches them. She is able to rescue Tokuoka as well by forcibly removing his headset.

[edit] .hack//Games

In this series of games, Sora has gone from travelling The World to being trapped inside Skeith's wand. Kite makes contact with Sora long after Skeith has been destroyed when he finds the wand in a dungeon. Sora is freed from this prison, though he only regains consciousness after Kite has defeated Morganna Mode Gone.

Sora does not appear as a playable character in the game, but instead an AI that's taken on his mannerisms and appearance, alongside similar copies of Tsukasa and Subaru, join your list of contacts as a reward at the end of Quarantine.

[edit] Unison

At the beginning of Unison he runs into Mistral, and demands her Member Address. Silver Knight and Crim appearance prevent Sora from achieving his goal, and he gates out of the area after being challenged by all of them.

Later at Net Slum, Tsukasa sees Sora hiding himself from the rest, and walks over to him. Tsukasa then reminds him that they promised to be friends, and with tears in his eyes, Sora joins the festivities with Tsukasa and the others.

Sora in real life falls in a coma

In the real world, Sora's player is a boy in the 4th grade named Ryou Misaki. It is revealed in .hack//analysis that he remains in a coma until the end of the Twilight Incident, when all the coma victims awaken. After awakening from his coma, he loses his memories of The World. His parents hide the entire ordeal from him, and as a result he forgets he ever even played. In .hack//Roots he creates the character Haseo in The World R:2. [2]

[edit] Sora, the Catalyst

It was revealed in The End of The World (the Terminal Disc included with .hack//G.U. Volume 1: Rebirth) that Sora played a major part in the development of Epitaph Users, Player Characters capable of using the power of the Phases, reconstructed as "Avatars". In .hack//Zero, Sora acted as a basic form of Epitaph User for Skeith, though the Phase controlled him rather than vice versa, which allowed Skeith to travel freely throughout The World.

This, alongside Macha's transformation into Mia, proved that Phase data could be fused with Player Character data in order to create Epitaph Users. When it emerged that only certain Players could control these Avatars, Sora was also the first candidate for this task, but was, unfortunately, not playing the game at that point in time.[3]
