Sopot, Plovdiv

Sopot (Bulgarian: Сопот) is a town in the Plovdiv Province, central Bulgaria. As of 2006 it has 10 000 inhabitants. It is located at 520 metres above the sea level in the Karlovo valley; at 5 km to the west of Karlovo, 63 km to the north of Plovdiv and 136 km to the east of Sofia.

The backbone of the economy is the enormous Vazovski Machine Plants (Вазовски Машиностроителни заводи, ВМЗ), which is one of the largest military and weapon plants in Europe. It produces huge amounts of military equipment.
