[edit] Character

Sophie was abandoned by her mother when she was very young. She had lived in a number of foster homes. As soon as her father, Al, was released from prison, she was ready and willing to go with him, as she saw life on the road as an exciting prospect.

As soon as they arrived in the Bay, Sophie began having doubts about the life they were living. Sophie eventually realised that Al was using her.

Sophie later moved in with Tom and Pippa Fletcher and eventually was fostered by them, as they had previously with Sophie's adoptive older sister, Bobby.

Grant Mitchell, who lived in the Fletcher's caravan park and taught at Summer Bay, was instrumental in helping Sophie with her reading and writing lessons.

During her stay in Summer Bay, Sophie was involved in a love triangle with Blake Dean and Haydn Ross.

When David Croft, Donald Fisher's nephew, arrived in the Bay in 1991, Sophie fell in love with him. It was met with opposition as soon as all was revealed. Sophie was advised to go with Pippa to stay with Coral, Pippa's mother, while she wrestled with her feelings for David and promised that they would leave her alone if she still loved him when they returned.

One night, while David was driving, Karen Dean and Adam Cameron crashed into his car. David died in hospital. Michael Ross, Pippa's second husband, did not tell Pippa anything until she returned. Sophie was enraged when she discovered this and blamed them.

Sophie later discovered she was pregnant and her friends Blake Dean and Simon Fitzgerald were willing to put themselves in the frame as potential candidates.

However Lucinda, David's sister, became suspicious and figured out that the father was actually her brother.

Under pressure, Sophie ran away from home.

After her return, Sophie eventually gave birth to a baby girl called Tamara.

Mary, David and Lucinda's mother, arrived in the bay and asked Sophie and Tamara to live with her in Perth.

Nine years later Sophie returned to Summer Bay for the sesquicentenary celebrations in 2002 where she was reunited with former flame Blake. Being a surrogate mother for Sally and her husband Flynn ended in tragedy when Sophie miscarried. Sophie also returned for Alf Stewart's 60th birthday celebrations.
