Soorappallam is a village located 1 km away from Pattukkottai town in Tanjore district in TamilNadu state in India on the way to Mannargudi via Vadaseri. It has a very big lake, which is used for agriculture. It has the famous temple of Soorama Kaliamman, whose festival is celebrated every year in the Tamil month of Tamil calendar Chithirai.
Soorappallam, which is part of Pattukkottai taluk, is most fertile as the land is with rich content of alluvial soil, deposited by the river flowing across the region through Kallanai canal which is one of the distributaries for the Cauvery river.

About 70% of population here are literate.It is apparent that all have realized that education is an important resource for all and it is important that everyone be an educated unlike the people in a normal village. This is achieved thanks to this village having many educational institutions like a Government High school and this village enjoying being very nearer to pattukkottai town that has many educational institutions which includes Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Government Girls Higher Secondary School and many colleges namely, Enathi Rajappa Arts & Science College and Meenakshi Sundaram Arts & Science College.

This village is with the population of 2557 as per the census operation in 2001 of which 1255 are male & 1301 are female, 14.62 % of the population i.e (326 persons of which 163 are Male & 163 are Female) are in the age group of 0-6. The literacy rate is 70.58% against the national literacy rate of 65.38 % and state literacy rate of 73.47%.The population is mainly from the Veerakodi Velala community and the religion of Hinduism as other villages around Pattukkottai town. The main festivals celebrated here include Deepavali, Pongal, Pooja, Karthigai Deepam.

The main work here is Cultivation and it gives employment for many people as the water resource is available across the year either by bore pumps or water flowing in the Cauvery river as this village lies in the tail-end area for the cauvery river in the delta region or other water resources that includes a lake and many ponds.The main crop cultivated here is rice and other crops are also cultivated which include Groundnut, Sesame, Blackgram, Maize, Sugarcane and Banana tree. This village contributes more to let Pattukkottai be one of the important regions in the production of Coconut due to the favourable wind blowing from the bay of bengal as Pollachi region thanks to favourable wind blowing from the Arabian sea.

As basically India is a tropical country, This village is very hot in summer season (April, May, June, July). The rainy season lies in three months October, November, December. This village is geographically located in Tanjore district, a coastal district in Tamilnadu state and so receives about 80% of total rainfall in rainy season thanks to the North-East monsoon blowing from the Bay of Bengal. The Bay of Bengal is just 14 km (9 miles) from this village in Adirampattinam town.
