Welcome

Welcome!

Hello, Myselfalso, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!  Keep up the good work on Central Dauphin High School! Templates

Hi, and welcome from me too! Be a bit cautious when you edit the templates such as Template:Disambig, because changes there have ramifications throughout the encyclopedia. The disambig template is "transcluded" to all the disambiguation pages, so when you edited the disambig-template here, the links to Central Dauphin High School and the school district turned up on every single disambiguation page we have. Ah well, I have made that kind of mistake at least twice myself. Happy editing! Sjakkalle (Check!) 14:33, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Sorry about that. I have begun to figure out what I am doing with that. myselfalso 14:35, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Where did you find that photo of Lightning Racer? Search4Lancer 02:00, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

Do you know the source of Image:The Tackle.jpg? The copyright might be tricky on this one. Thanks. Chick Bowen 21:24, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

I believe it's an AP photo, actually. I got it in an e-mail sent to me shortly after the game last Sunday. myselfalso 21:44, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

Well, it would be very difficult to make a fair use argument, since it's used in the Bettis article but doesn't mention him. I've listed it at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Sorry. Feel free to comment here if you feel I'm mistaken. Thanks. Chick Bowen 22:10, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:I-376_Expansion.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:I-376_Expansion.gif. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

Olympic Participants

Hi, I'm not sure this list is very useful. What would someone use it for? The list of participants in Olympic Games is rather similar to the list of countries in the world. The only interest in it lies in the differences between the two, but there are other ways to cover it. This is just a friendly observation, not a vicious criticism. If you want to carry on writing this list, I don't care. I just invite you to think about it a bit more. Grace Note 06:10, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Request for edit summmary

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 3% for major edits and 25% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 8 minor edits outside the Wikipedia, User, Image, and all Talk namespaces.)

This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear inpolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 04:20, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Um, it's not opinion that matters here- it's what is defined by the AASHTO as official. All one and two digit numbers are included in their definition of primary, as well as 101 (for example) since it has absolutely no relation to US 1. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 02:18, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

ps3 release date vandalism

Why did you change the release date on History of video game consoles (seventh generation) for the ps3 to spring 2007?

My apologies, I had a source that incorrectly stated that it was delayed to spring 2007. --myselfalso 04:54, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

I've never heard of that. I've only heard that the release date is November '06. Hopefully as I've incorporated a script for 'number of days left' on the home page of my site, http://www.ps3xs.com.

Wikipedia_talk:Censorship

A watered-down version of the proposed policy against censorship is now open for voting. Will you kindly review the policy and make your opinions known? Thank you very much.Loom91 18:01, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

  • I think many who would take our side against the menace of censorship do not know about this poll. If you have some time to spare, would you mind posting a short message on their talk page (like mine) to let them know of this poll and invite them to voice their opinions? By involving more people, a larger portion of the Wikipedia community can have their say, for or against the policy. Some places you can go for a list of users are Wikipedia_talk:Censorship#Support, Category:Wikipedians_against_censorship and Category:Wikipedians_opposed_to_censorship_of_the_human_body,. Please check that I've not already posted a message with the heading Wikipedia_talk:Censorship in their talk page to avoid double-postings. If you don't have the time, feel free to ignore this request. Thank you.Loom91 09:18, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Wii.PNG

Thanks for uploading Image:Wii.PNG. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 21:07, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Additions to coaster infobox require article updating, need help

I've made several large additions to the {{Infobox roller coaster}} template, which will require updating of EVERY article using it. These additions are automatic unit conversion for the statistics and automatic categorization. I have also provided full documentation of every parameter on the template page, which I strongly encourage you to read. Every article will need the following changes:

  • These parameters must be delinked: location, section, manufacturer, and type. They will be automatically linked, and will (except for section) be used for automatic categorization.
  • The type parameter must be Steel or Wood.
  • The secondary type (Inverted, Floorless, Duelling etc.) should be moved to the type2 parameter. If a second secondary type is necessary, it goes in type3. In either case, don't link them, it will be done automatically.
  • height, drop, length, speed, and restriction must have all non-numeric characters removed. height, drop, and length must be expressed in feet (using decimals instead of inches if necessary), speed must be expressed in miles per hour, and restriction must be expressed in inches. All of these parameters will automatically be converted to metric and displayed in both forms.

Also, the rcdb_number parameter should be added to every coaster article that doesn't have it yet.

If the article is about a widely-cloned coaster such as Batman: The Ride where the template covers multiple installations of the same coaster, the redesigned template will not be appropriate. For these articles, simply change the template to "Infobox roller coaster simplified". This is the old version, without all the automation.

I've already updated over 50 articles myself, but I can't do this all day and I'll need your help to get it done quickly. The list of pages using the template can be found here. I'm sending this message to all listed participants of Wikipedia:WikiProject Roller Coasters. Dusso Janladde 07:46, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging for Image:Capital Beltway.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Capital Beltway.gif. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

Brain Teaser AfD

To all WikiProject Roller coasters participants: Brain Teaser, a kiddie coaster at Six Flags Darien Lake is up for deletion via WP:AFD. This isn't my article, but if it's deleted, it sets the prescident for many small coasters to be deleted, such as Mild Thing, which runs counter to the Coaster Wikiproject and also will make a lot of park templates look dumb since they can't include all coasters. Welcome aboard! I'm working on starting some overall improvements to the project, so just be aware that the articles are not standardized as of yet. Our project is a little caught-up in the debate, and as a result, our naming convention is not yet standardized. Just wanted you to be aware of the goings on, but happy to have you aboard. I've seen some of your contributions at WP:PASH, and it will be good to have someone with your eagerness on our project, whether a little or a lot. Homefryes SayDo 12:46, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Here is another welcome :) It's good to see other constructive editors coming aboard the project! Despite the whole debate and controversy over one user, feel free to add whatever you like to the project using the current naming conventions (e.g. Ohio State Highway XXX) as I just did with Ohio State Highway 141. Good luck! Seicer (talk) (contribs) 03:51, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

It'll be tough to reach GA-status with any road-related article (I've been trying to do the same with New York State Route 104), but hopefully if we work hard enough on the PA 39 article, it'll get to GA-status in the near future. Regards, TMF T - C 21:58, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

PA Routes

Great job maintaining the PA Route status list. The user that you mentioned (Jjc104) has been making some questionable edits to some articles, specifically in terms of the browse system. I left him a message on his talk page, so we'll see what happens. I have no problems about renaming the stub template, but I don't know if this would cause problems with WP:WSS.

Also, I'd like you to give a second opinion regarding Pennsylvania Route 100. I tagged it as a stub earlier today (as it clearly does not meet all of the standards outlined at WP:PASH), but PAWiki removed the tag. If you could provide a second opinion on this, that'd be freakin' sweet. Thanks, TMF T - C 04:46, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

AfD vs. ProD

Shalom myselfalso!

It was not my intent to upset anyone with the prod on the list of directv channels article. Per guidelines, I used the prod first because I wasn't sure any opposition existed -- The note I left on the talk page went several days with no response. It certainly was not a "threat to delete" (as you characterized it) -- prod may be removed by any user who contests the deletion. Next step is AfD, which is currently ongoing. I went ahead and bundled all the articles you suggested (though it may not have been your intent) into one "list of directories" AfD. I recognize the utility of the articles in question, but I interpret the Wiki inclusion policy fairly narrowly and believe that Wikipedia shouldn't try to "be everything" -- I'm all for transwiki or user-fy the information contained within. At the very least, these should be stubs of some more encyclopaedic article. Again, I did not mean for anyone to take the prod personally.  ;-) /Blaxthos 15:24, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

I would tend to agree with you -- there are a number of articles that should be dealt with in the same way. However, I do not think the "well it's done over there too" argument should be used to trump a policy. Not trying to be difficult, just fair. ;-) /Blaxthos 19:00, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

wikEd

The wikEdlogo

Hi, I have seen that you are using the Cacycle editor extension. This program is no longer actively maintained in favor of its much more powerful successor wikEd.

wikEd has all the functionality of the old editor plus: • syntax highlighting • nifty image buttons • more fixing buttons • paste formatted text from Word or web pages • convert the formatted text into wikicode • adjust the font size • and much, much more.

Switching to wikEd is easy, check the detailed installation description on its project homepage. Often it is as simple as changing every occurrence of editor.js into wikEd.js on your User:YourUsername/monobook.js page.

I heartily approve of the new wikitable formatting. Is this a first sign of the much-discussed "change of course" that we've been hearing so much of in the last few days? :) Harro5 07:30, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Kait Raymond

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Kait Raymond, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at Talk:Kait Raymond. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. PA 39 and related items

Hey. I just posted a request for a PA 39 map over at the maps task force, so hopefully we'll get a map within a week or so.

Here's a recap of what's happened over the past couple of weeks to (hopefully) get you up to speed:

  • Albertotineo10, after uploading a clear copyvio from state-ends.com, was blocked for a week retroactive to November 7. Over the time since, a number of editors, both registered and anon, have been creating articles in a similar style to Albertotineo. I've thought about filing a checkuser or something similar, but I've had too much on my plate lately. In any case, I've been able to keep up with them to ensure that their edits are standards-compliant.
  • A large-scale cleanup of all PA articles is roughly 60% complete. All of the articles from PA 100 up to PA 999 have been cleaned and brought up to standards (although 90% of them are still stubs). All that remains is PA 1 to PA 99, and if we could get those cleaned by the end of the month, that'd be great.
  • The reason that I've been hard at work on the PA articles is that cleanup on the NY and VT articles wrapped up about 10 days ago, allowing me to fully focus on the PA articles. Hopefully, now that most of the articles are standards-compliant, other editors will take notice and start creating their articles to the same standard.

Other than that, it's been pretty much business as usual around here. In any case, welcome back and let the cleanup commence! =) --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 20:27, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

I got on a hot streak the past few days and finished cleaning up the articles. All of them are now project-compliant and stubbed-at-worst. All we have to do now is watch for new articles when they appear and, if necessary, correct them to be project-compliant. Category:Pennsylvania route articles needing work is now down to eight articles, so those will be the next thing to work on. Regards, TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 22:24, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Star Trek TImeline: First Captain

You entered: "The timeline says Enterprise was launched under Captain Pike. However, the star-trek encyclopedia claims the 1st captain was Captain Robert April, although to my recollection (i dont have the book here) no details are given, shouldnt this be mentioned somewhere though? BFS The NCC-1701 was not launched under Captain Pike. It was launched under a captain before him, and an Animated Series episode says that it is Captain Robert April. However, TAS is not considered to be cannon. That having been said, there is no evidence that Captain Pike was the first captain of the NCC-1701." --myselfalso 15:05, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

I have a book from the 1960s titled The Making of Star Trek. It says that Captain April was the Captain prior to Chris Pike. I am not at home now due to the holidays but I could dig through the attic upon return home and quote a page number, if you like.

I recall a discussion about this in the old magazine Starlog some years ago. There was material (discussion, speculation, etc.) that CPT April had two 5 year missions, and Pike had two 5 year missions. This was to explain the age of the ship.

I have been watching all of the Star Trek series since the debut in the 1960s. I was in college then and it was difficult to wrest the dorm tv away from other more popular shows. I have read many of the early novels. So, comparatively, I have some knowledge of that time.

I noticed statements from Rick Berman, in 1990's interviews, that he would not follow the chronology of the novels. No reason given. Big Mistake. Is this what you mean by "non-canonical"?

Unspecified source for Image:750px-US 422.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:750px-US 422.JPG. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 04:24, 8 January 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 04:24, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

HACC

Hey...sorry I didn't write to you before, but I've been super busy. I edited out the material you added to the HACC simply because it doesn't really add anything to the article. The whole point is to provide information worthy of being added to an encylcopedia style/type article...which I don't belive much of the information on Student Government, Clubs and Organizations really is. There are literally dozens of school sponsored organizations and over a hundred sanctioned clubs...should we list them all??? Lists are discouraged on wikipedia as per Wikipedia:Manual of Style. I have been adding articles for the greater Harrisburg area for quite some time now and I've been trying to go back over many of them and source/reference them accordingly. One of my many objectives is to rid articles of unworthy/unsourced blab. I hope you can see my point.

As far as the Midtown Campus goes...maybe the campus itself will be wholey part of the administrative functions of the Wildwood/Harrisburg Campus; however, according to these articles, the campus is officially going to be designated it's own "campus" within the college: [2], [3], [4]

With that, I really appreciate all your hard work, especially with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Harrisburg Area Roads. It's great to have other editors in the area that share my vision for providing more information about Harrisburg related-topics. Wrightchr (talk · contribs) 21:44, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Ohio Turnpike shield

Please see Wikipedia talk:Fair use#Is this eligible for copyright?. --NE2 01:58, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

The discussion on copyright most certainly is intrinsic to why it was removed from the I-76 article. Essentially, if the image is copyrighted, then it can only be used according to fair use criteria (and junction lists in infoboxes does not meet that criteria).
Since it's currently tagged as public domain, I personally will not revert you adding the shield back, pending the discussion NE2 linked to above. But if someone else reverts, I wouldn't be surprised, and this is their reasoning. -- NORTH talk 03:59, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

This edit

According to WP:USSH, links to California, Texas, and Virginia highways are supposed to have the state in parentheses most of the time. A disambiguation page gives the various meanings of a term, and is useful for both readers (in finding the article to read) and editors (in finding the article to link to). For the reader, either way is equivalent, but the editor would be better served with the parenthetical link. --NE2 22:35, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

New NRHP Collaboration Division

Hey, saw you were a participant in the National Register of Historic Places WikiProject. I thought I would let you know that there is a new Collaboration Division up for the project. The goal of the division is to select an article or articles for improvement to Good article standard or higher. There is a simple nomination process, which you can check out on the division subpage, to make sure each candidate for collaboration has enough interested editors. This is a good way to get a lot of articles to a quality status quickly. Please consider participating. More details can be seen at the division subpage. IvoShandor 11:12, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi

Hi, I've noticed in 2 articles that I've been editing that you've gone in and reverted changes I've made. Fortunately, you've reverted that so the page was "back to normal". I was just curious about how you've identified my changes (which are somewhat prescribed because I asked for a review of PA 39 and I-283 is clearly an intrastate interstate highway) as vandalism. If you're interested in working on highways, please help out! Stop by WP:USRD and check things out! --myselfalso 23:29, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Please disregard the changes to I-283. Pennsylvania Route 39 was detected as vandalism by the program I am running because you entered "haha" at the top of the article. (example) When I double-checked, everything else looked correct so I reverted back to that edit, minus the ha-ha part. Burntsauce 23:55, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

WP:NJSCR Newsletter #3

The New Jersey State and County Route Newsletter
Issue 3 – March 2007

Issue #3

The third issue of the WP:NJSCR newsletter celebrates the completion of infoboxes for all current state routes. Congratulations team!

Project News
  • All current state routes now have an infobox. Route 183 was selected to represent the project in the header as the last article to receive one.
  • Now that we have that done, what's left? Plenty! A to-do list has been posted on the project page, with a more detailed version at WT:NJSCR#To-do list. The simple version:
    • Ensure that all freeway exit lists are up to exit list guide standards.
    • Make sure all infoboxes have the new maint= parameter.
    • Make sure the straight line diagram is properly referenced in the infobox.
    • Add a major intersections table to each article.
Member of the Month
  • The member of the month is Alansohn, who had the fantastic idea for a "final run-through" and the to-do list.

PA 39

This article looks very good, maybe GA-class. Can I work on the external links, references, and citations so it can be improved? -- JohnnyAlbert10 23:34, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

This is great! By time were done i think we'll have 2 PA GA-article, PA 39 and PA 145. I'll work with the citations which need major work and the PennDOT maps i'll try to look at. Though these county historic maps work with Adobe Reader and better with a broadband internet which i don't have, i have dial-up so its slower. -- JohnnyAlbert10 22:17, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
One last thing i forgot to mention. Can you tell me where all of those newspaper references go in the PA 39 article so i can put citations in the right place. -- JohnnyAlbert10 22:22, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
Changes have all ready been made to PA 39 and there's one last thing left to do and that's the length reference. You can't use Pahighways.com because it's not a reliable source and it was that same reason why PA 65 failed to be a GA. But i think we have two PA route GA's, PA 145 and PA 39. You can look at PA 145 and see what PA 39 needs. -- JohnnyAlbert10 12:40, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
I'll try using mapquest for the length reference, OK? -- JohnnyAlbert10 17:08, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
No problem, always happy to help. It's time to nominate PA 39 to become a good article. Go to this a follow the directions on top, I can't do it because i'm busy with PA 145 but its easy and hopefully we'll have 2 good articles from the PA state highway system. -- JohnnyAlbert10 23:07, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

PA 39 problems

Perhaps the main section should summarize the article and the route description could use some references, otherwise its a GA. -- J-A10 T · C 0:20, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

I took care of it. -- J-A10 T · C 0:36, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

WV shield

I uploaded the shield, which I designed, as a suggestion for pages related to West Virginia state routes and highways, but it was soundly rejected by the overseeing Wikiproject. I took a great deal of time to create the shield (because WV's shielding is too similar to other states), but I was treated with disdain by members of the Wikiproject for having even created it. Oh well. Mphamilton 17:52, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

The image was deleted by administrators because they were so bothered by the suggestion. But, I have uploaded it for you . I'm not sure what they will allow you to do with it, but any way you can make use is fine with me. Mphamilton 20:13, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Were you able to check out the shield? Mphamilton 17:30, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Special note to spamlist users: Apologies for the formatting issues in previous issues. This only recently became a problem due to a change in HTML Tidy; however, I am to blame on this issue. Sorry, and all messages from this one forward should be fine (I hope!) -Ral315

Family Guy episodes

You are right that re-reverting would be a bad idea. I have taken the question to the admin noticeboard for a wider review by people who are also aware of the policies. The images cannot stay in that article without a rewrite of our fair use policies, but I'm certainly not going after a "last defender of the Wiki" award or anything...
