[edit] Article Tone
This is one version of this article by another editor. I removed some portions that I feel have problems with tone, reading more like a soap opera magazine fan article than an encyclopedia article. It also includes adjectives not suited to an encyclopedia article such as "intriguing," "hot couple," and "clever." There are also a number of spelling errors which ought to be corrected -- i.e. Micheal (correct spelling is Michael), utalized (correct spelling is utilized), etc. --Bookworm857158367 02:47, 3 October 2006 (UTC
- I don't think there is anything wrong with the tone of my version. An entry that is posative and complimentary does not make it a fan magazine article. Words like intriguing and clever are not unsuitable for an encyclopedia entry. I think if you checked Brittanica you would find both those words in entries. The word "hot" was used by some other editor. Sonny is not as dark, unforgiving or hypocrticial as the first entry implies. Thanks for changing the typos. I'd appreciate that my entry on this page not be deleted but edited--with edits in quotes--User:Jessie Brewer 11:47, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, but I disagree that the tone is appropriate. He's got plenty of critics and is an extremely controversial character. Words like "hot," "intriguing," and whatnot just do not seem appropriate for an encyclopedia article. The character actually is pretty dark and unforgiving if you look at his history.--Bookworm857158367 05:21, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- Here is an entry from the Encyclopedia Brittannica that uses the word intriguing
Although tourism was curtailed during the period of Derg rule, Ethiopia can once again realize the tourist potential of such historical wonders as the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, the antiquities at Aksum, and the Gonder castles. Of equal attraction are Ethiopia's diverse peoples, their intriguing cultures, and the natural [1]
Are you going to tell them they are innappropriate? I never used the word hot--I edited that on my first edit of this page.
I have been watching GH since 1963. I know all of Sonny's history. His story is complicated--just like Sonny--sometimes dark and sometimes light. Its not all one or the other. Who has critics on GH? Maurice Benard or Sonny Corinthos? Perhaps you are just referring to the "mob" storyline which you seem to dislike.
His relationship with Alexis was much more than a one night stand! They had an intense friendship for a year. Its not like Sonny picked her up in a bar.
Sonny Corinthos has been on the GH canvas since 1993. Of course he's going to have many relationships. Courtney was on the show four years and had was married four times. If we are looking at % that beats Sonny hands down. (What actually is the definition of "serial marryer"?)
Sonny forgave Brenda for wearing the wire, he forgives Carly for her countless betrayals and plaaaaans that backfire, and he is very solicitous towards Alexis who treats him like toe jam. JB, 10:59, Oct 3, 2006
- Look--we can keep this up all day or come up with something we both can live with. I'm willing to try if you are.JB 12:54, Oct3, 2006
I'm a newspaper reporter and the tone of this article feels off. In a news story, for instance, I wouldn't usually use adjectives like "intriguing" unless I was quoting someone. That's more suitable for an opinion piece or a fan magazine article than it is for journalism or an encyclopedia article, which should always present both sides of an argument or various viewpoints. The "intriguing Ethiopian culture" is one thing, but calling a character "intriguing" is a more loaded word. Intriguing according to whom? Find a review of the show and cite it, saying he's intriguing, but also include the reviews saying the mafia focus is a problem. I have certainly read a number of reviews and fan comments that say as much. For the record, I have also watched this program since before Sonny made his appearance and I remember the various events in detail. I am going to edit this piece again to correct spelling and grammatical errors and will re-add the categorizations. --Bookworm857158367 17:39, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
-- A newspaper report is different than an encyclopedia entry. I have shown you an instance where the Encyclopedia Brittanica uses the word intriguing. I have adressed the mob/glorifying issue. I will keep re-editing until this is something I can live with. I have offered a compromise but you don't want one. I am not the only person editing this thing so don't blame me for the spelling errors. JB
I didn't feel your submission was neutral enough for an encyclopedia article. You omitted some negative opinions, which I have added, with examples from the show. I left in your explanations for the character's popularity and linked the Godfather and the Sopranos to the appropriate articles. When you revert these articles back, you post it with all of the spelling errors uncorrected. The spelling is "utilized," for instance, and not "utalized." "Culminated" is the correct spelling, not "culmanated." "Altar" and not "alter." You also removed all of the categorizations that apply to Sonny. I'll come back and edit as well because I really dislike seeing the spelling errors in particular. I'm probably anal about it, but it is my profession.-- Bookworm857158367 18:10, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

If you look at the history page, I am not the only person who puts edits in here, although I am prone to typos. I can live with most of your edits. I just want to make a few tiny changes. I think by working together we made Sonny's history page much more accurate Thanks for compromising. JB 13:20, Oct3, 2006
- I agree with Bookworm. I edited the page myself because when people are retarded and spell "hesitant", as "hesaint" it makes the article look stupid and unreliable. I deleted 3-4 setences because of all the terrible spelling errors, incorrect grammar, and uncapitialized words. C'mon people, how lazy can you be? And if you don't know the correct English, please don't edit it at all as it ruins the article. If your trying to write something, don't just wing the word because you are too stupid to spell it correctly and you feel that someone will edit it later. Please, whoever is spelling things wrong, you are destroying the article! Stop editing!
Micheal "Sonny" Corinthos, Jr is a fictional character residing in the town of Port Charles on the American soap opera General Hospital. The character is easliy one of the most controversial and intriguing characters on Soap Operas today. Maurice Benard originated the role in August of 1993, and continues to portray the bipolar mob-boss today.
Sonny is a Roman Catholic and his religious faith is emphasized by the soap opera. This is a literary devise utalized by director Francis Ford Coppola in his famous Godfather trilogy and by David Chase who writes and produces The Sopranos. Showing Sonny to be a devout Catholic and at the same time a figure in organized crime immediately establishes the conflict within the character. Sonny is a good father and loves his children. He is very involved in their lives. When he's involved with a woman he is usually faithful (there was one "reckless" relationship due to extenuating circumstance). Sonny's morality also compares well to other citizens of Port Charles who claim moral authority but have mistresses, affairs, lovers, illigitimate children, commit murder and indulge in unethical business practices. This very cleverly sets up an irony: who is the real criminal? Is it the family man mobster or those that work "around" the law in order to further their unethical business and personal affairs? Maurice Benard introduced a new kind of soap leading man--an antogonist who has many layers woven into his character. He doesn't fit the mold of most soap male characters who tend to be benevolent doctors, successful lawyers or business men, police commissioners or agents in secret national and international espionage agencies. For this soap "break through", Mr. Benard has been nominated several times for a Daytime Emmy, and was awarded one as best actor in a soap opera in 2003.
Sonny's violent behavior, such as throwing things or slipping into a deep depression, has been attributed to his recent diagnosis of bipolar disease. He has given up drinking, takes medication and sees a therapist on a regular basis. Sonny's portaryer, Maurice Benard (who also is bipolar, felt so strongly about this storyline that he put himself at risk by pushing hard to make the story as realistic as possible.
[edit] Sonny & Brenda
One of General Hospital's most popular storylines was the supercouple pairing of Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and Brenda Barrett (Vanessa Marcil). The hot couple's passion and heartbreak captivated the audience and kept them glued to thier screens. Although they were madly in love, there were complications which included: Sonny's mobster life style, Sonny being forced to marry Lily Rivera, Brenda's relationship with corporate raider Jasper "Jax" Jacks (Ingo Rademacher), which became one of the most popular love triangle in General Hospital history. Sonny, worried about Brenda's safety because of his lifestyle, decided to "stand her up" at the altar hoping this would make her hate him and forget him. The loss of Sonny coupled with career setbacks and loss of income caused Brenda to have a nervous breakdown. Years later their estrangement ended when Brenda told Sonny she understood why he left her at the alter and thanked him for keeping her safe.
[edit] Early years
Sonny first appeared on the show as a strip club owner and low-level mobster set up as a foil in the romance of the front burner couple Karen Wexler and Jagger Cates. Sonny's portrayer Maurice Benard however, took a character that was supposed to be short term and hated and weaved in so many intricate layers into Sonny (such as vulnerability, lonliness, and desperation) that the audience saw behind Sonny's swagger and bravado. The lines between good and bad were blurred and Sonny Corinthos became a very different type of soap leading man. Sonny was soon given a much larger role on the canvas. Sonny lived with his good friend Stone Cates, a troubled teenager he took in. He was devastated when he died of AIDS in 1995. Stone influenced Sonny's life so much he named his second son Morgan Stone after him and Jason Morgan. The rings that Sonny still wear today belonged to Stone and were given to him by Stone's girlfriend Robin Scorpio The audience learned that Sonny and his mother Adela Corinthos had been abused by his stepfather, Deke, when he was a child. Sonny's father, Mike Corbin, who presumably changed his name from Michael Corinthos Sr., later came to town but Sonny resented him for abandoning him. Mike has a gambling problem and Sonny often had to bail him out of financial trouble. Sonny later learned that his father had a daughter, Courtney Matthews, with an ex-girlfriend Janine. His mother, Adela, had a second son, Ric Lansing, with fiance Trevor Lansing but chose to leave Ric to be raised by his father. Trevor blamed Sonny for Adela's fall down the stairs while she was pregnant with Ric and refused to have Sonny in his household. The show has established that Sonny's mother was of Cuban heritage, while his father is of Irish and Greek descent. Sonny occasionally speaks Spanish on the show.
[edit] Romances
Sonny's romantic partners have been many which is not uncommon when a character in on the same soap canvas for a lengthly amount of time, such as Erica Kane on All My Children. Sonny was forced to marry Lily Rivera instead of his real love Brenda Barrett because of Lily's mob boss father. A pregnant Lily was later blown up by a car bomb meant for Sonny. Lily's father arranged for the car bomb because he thought Sonny meant to go back to Brenda. Sonny inherited Rivera's territory after he too died. Sonny's relationship with Brenda did not last, but he has a number of other relationships. The most significant has been with Carly Corinthos, who came to town as Caroline "Carly" Benson. He has married and divorced Carly several times. Sonny has two living children with Carly. Sonny adopted Carly's son, Michael, after forcing the boy's biological father A.J. Quartermaine to sign away his rights. Originally, he was able to remove Carly and Michael from the Quartermaine home by blackmailing AJ with evidence he had that AJ caused a fire at the warehouse on the docks. Faced with going to jail, AJ signed divorce papers. Later, AJ married Courtney Mathews, Sonny's half sister and and started demanding his parental rights. Sonny ordered his henchmen to hang A.J. from a meat hook and threatened to kill him if he did not sign the adoption papers. Carly later gave birth to his son, Morgan Stone Corinthos. Sonny accidentally shot Carly in the head while she was giving birth to Morgan. Sonny also has a daughter, Kristina, with his former attorney, Alexis Davis. Alexis kept the paternity of her daughter secret for years to protect her from Sonny. She was forced to tell Sonny the truth when Kristina developed aplastic anemia and needed a bone marrow transplant. Sonny also had an unnamed stillborn daughter with Samantha "Sam" McCall. Sam later turned out to be the daughter Alexis gave up for adoption as a teenager. Sonny was dismayed when he learned he had slept with a mother and daughter. Sonny was most recently involved with Emily Bowen-Quartermaine, the adoptive sister of his right hand man, Jason Morgan. Emily persuaded him to get treatment for his bipolar disorder. Sonny recently ended the relationship out of fear that his lifestyle would hurt Emily. Sonny's half-brother, Ric Lansing, the son of Sonny's mother Adela by Trevor Lansing, hoped to use Sonny's bipolar disorder to gain advantage over Sonny.

[edit] Sonny's romantic history
There was never any "affair" between Sonny and Angel Ellis. acturray Sonny said that he would rather be with Angel than his own wife.
That does not mean he had an affair with Angel Ellis. He was mad at Carly at the time and with good reason. He and Angel were never a romantic couple. 136.242.180.193 21:26, 26 January 2007 (UTC)Jessie brewer136.242.180.193 21:26, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Markko Rivera his son?
I don't think that Sonny had any kids with Lily Rivera. The only one he had had died because the bomb killed Lily and the baby.Prison Break 06:04, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
he could be his son. soaps are really confusing. peoploe come back from the dead
I don't think that a baby that wasn't even born yet to come back
How in the world did someone rationalize that Markko from One Life to Live is Sonny and Lily's son??? The only child that the two had together was never born as it died when Lily died in the explosion. This should be deleted. Lennoncorleone (talk) 00:33, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
