Talk:Sonic shower
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
General Electric has been rumored to have already designed, build and test 100, or so, prototypes of a Sonic Shower. The project was immediately and quietly scrapped once it was realized that females were having spontaneous orgasms while using the device. This was all done in the 1960's, so the rumor says, yet nothing has come around these days proving any further testing or development. There are sonic cleaners available to the general public, marketed to clean clothes and other inanimate objects. The principle is similar, if not the same. However, their credible functionality has yet to be truely tested against conventional cleaning methods. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.69.157.69 (talk • contribs) .
I mentioned an episode in which a sonic shower was modified to emit water but I don't know the name of the episode. Janeway and Chakotay are off with a group of monks while one of them is staying onboard. He over-indulges himself in food and alcohol which cannot be broken down by his body. If anyone knows the name of the episode, mention it. Feral Mutant 21:19, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
- That is indeed one of those examples of "plot licences", and a good one too. I don't remember the episode by heart, but I'll try to locate it from the plot outline you've given. If I can find it, I'll specify the reference — it could help if you can remember which season it was, or at least approximate it. Regards, Redux 21:35, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
I remember Seven was in the episode and semething had obviously upset her. She yelled at the intoxicated monk to get away from her after he grabbed her hand. Feral Mutant 19:49, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
- Humm, if Seven was in it, that means it's somewhere between seasons 5 and 7. I'll try to locate it. Redux 00:00, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
- Probably the episode mentioned by Feral Mutant is Someone to Watch Over Me, of the fifth season. You can find more info here, here and here. Regards, Carioca 01:43, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
That's the one. Thanks, I've added the reference.Feral Mutant 19:59, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
- By a huge coincidence, I have just now seen the episode in question. What Neelix says is that [given that species' rituals] he had already equiped his quarters with a fountain, built to his specifications. Nothing about modifying the sonic shower. In fact, immediately before this line, Captain Janeway says that The [species] only bathes in purified water, so the sonic shower is out. There was no modifying the sonic shower, quite on the contrary, since Janeway says that, given that species' requeriment to use water, the sonic shower will not be of use to them. Given that, I believe we'll need to remove that reference, as it is incorrect. Regards, Redux 19:46, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
Didn't Star Trek The Motion Picture feature a sonic shower? I remember the V'Ger clone of Lieutenant Ilya being deposited in an operating sonic shower, fully clothed, when discovered by Kirk and company. This would seem to be the first appearance on screen of a sonic shower. 23:30 UTC 22 March 2006 - Tim Armstrong (unregistered user)
- That's right, but afaik she was deposited nude and only at the end got that kimono thing to put on (when the light stops flashing) but in any case that predates Voyagers fifth season by leagues. --87.193.35.179 18:23, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
In the scifi original series Ereka, there is reference to a sonic shower in the bunker house where the main character lives. Also what possiblity is there for a "real" sonic shower, e.g. one that uses sound waves? All theoretical of course -- Chase
Stick your fingers in a laboratory ultrasonic bath. It gets your nails etc. totally clean, but hurts like heck...(Great for cleaning motorbike brake calipers)193.130.128.2 (talk) 13:39, 6 February 2008 (UTC)Lance Tyrell
