Sony MDR-V6

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sony MDR-V6 is a large diaphragm foldable headphone designed for professional audio and live/broadcast applications. It is one of the most popular stereo headphones in the domain of mixing, mastering and stage-monitoring. The MDR-V6 is a closed, circumaural sealed-ear design with a coiled, telephone-like oxygen-free copper cord. The model dates back to the 1980s.

The MDR-V6 is usually regarded as a relatively durable headphone. For example, all of the MDR-V6's enclosures are made out of metal instead of plastic. However, the pleather pads have been reported by some to wear out after time. The pads are replaceable parts (part number 2-115-668-03), and also other vendor's pads can be used with some modding, such as the Beyer Dynamic DT 250's velour pads, that some have claimed to be more comforting and noise-isolating than the original pads.[1]

[edit] Sony MDR-7506

The Sony MDR-V6 was superseded by the Sony MDR-7506 with only minor cosmetic differences and a different frequency response, such as the latter being provided with a gold plated headphone connector and a flat frequency response of 10 Hz to 20,000 Hz instead of the MDR-V6's 5 Hz to 30,000 Hz. The MDR-V6 also costs less than the MDR-7506.

Another difference is that the MDR-V6's, labeled with "Digital" are intended for mass market distribution through Sony's consumer division, as opposed to the MDR-7506's, which are labeled with "Professional" along the side and distributed through Sony's professional division. The MDR-7506's also come with a much more accessible warranty, which is another reason for the higher price. [2]
