[edit] Background

Sony Ericssons previous introduction of the Walkman brand to their range of phones proved to be a huge success, with sales of more than 3 million devices prior to the announcement of the W950, the sixth Walkman phone. One of its distinguishing features is the 4 GB internal large flash memory in which you can store many songs. However, it does not support any type of memory card. Also, it is extremely light in weight.

[edit] Developing for the W950

Since the W950 is based upon the UIQ platform, it is easy to make third party applications that can be downloaded to the phone. Developers can choose their preferred programming language (Java, C++, etc) and IDE (Visual Studio, CodeWarrior, Eclipse, Carbide, NetBeans).

[edit] Problems

Connectivity has been an ongoing problem with the UIQ3 suite of phones from Sony Ericsson and the Mac OS X iSync utility that Mac users use to synchronise a mobile phone with the computer. As of February 2008 there are still widespread problems reported with these phones for Mac users.[citation needed]

The W950 is also prone to water damage, which is not covered by the original warranty. When moisture gets into the phone, the touchscreen is usually the first thing to stop working. When it does it is impossible to do a master reset, access the media memory, and effectively everything that cannot be done with just the keypad and the scroll wheel.
