Sony Entertainment Television Asia, popularly known as SET Asia, is one of India’s popular Hindi-language based international general entertainment broadcasters. Based in the United Kingdom, it is a venture promoted by Sony Pictures Entertainment since 1998. SET Asia is available in several countries and regions, including Australia, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, New Zealand, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States. SET Max, the network's Bollywood movie channel, is available in the Middle East, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
SET Asia's programming is targeted towards family audiences. The programming covers genres including drama, reality, comedy, horror, Bollywood, and live events. Some of its most successful programmes to date include Indian Idol, an adaptation of the worldwide Pop Idol format owned by FremantleMedia, and Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin ("There is no one like Jassi"), an adaptation of the Colombian telenovela Betty la fea.
Today, SET Asia features several programs that connect the South Asian community overseas. View Asia, a weekly program produced in the United Kingdom, showcases live events and news that are important to the South Asian diaspora. SET Asia recently aired Bigg Boss, the Indian adaption of Big Brother, and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, the Indian adaptation of Dancing with the Stars.
