[edit] Origin

In 1991, the GMC Syclone was introduced, an all wheel drive pickup with a turbocharged 285 hp 4.3L V6.

In 1992, an entry level version of the Syclone, called the Sonoma GT was brought to the automotive market by General Motors.

[edit] Features

The Sonoma GT was based on the production 2wd GMC_Sonoma truck. It was a regular cab, short bed model. Modified by Production Automotive Services (PAS inc.) of Troy, Michigan, the Sonoma was equipped with a special Syclone style interior package with red piped seats, floor shift console, special gauges, and a soft tonneau cover. The truck was then lowered and equipped with a 700R4 4 speed automatic transmission (also called the 4L60). All Sonoma GTs were produced with a 3.42 rear axle ratio, with the G80 limited slip option. Sonoma GTs were rated to haul a payload of 950 pounds.

[edit] Engine

The Sonoma GT was powered by a high output version of the L35 Vortec 4.3L V6. It has Central Multi Port fuel injection and produced 195 hp.

  • Family: GM 90 degree V6
  • Bore: 4.000 inch
  • Displacement: 262 cubic inches (4.3 liters)
  • Redline: 5200 rpm
  • Power: 195 hp
  • Torque: 235 ft·lbf

[edit] Production Numbers

In the 1992 model year, PAS modified a total of 806 Sonoma GTs for sale on the public market.

[edit] Colors

Sonoma GTs came in a total of 7 different color combinations.

  • 408 trucks were produced in Midnight black with Midnight black ground effects.
  • 180 were made in Apple red with Argent grey ground effects.
  • 101 came in Arctic white with Argent grey ground effects.

[edit] Interior

The Sonoma GT was equipped with special sport gauges lifted from the Syclone. It also had special black cloth bucket seats with red piping. The final touch was a truck specific center console with shifter for the automatic transmission
