[edit] History

The Band was originally founded under the name Eat her Eyes in 1996. With this name they came in second in the talent competition "brand: newcomer talent quest" initiated by MTV in 2000 and got themselves a record deal with Sony.

Shortly afterwards the current bandname Sonnit was established. In June 2002 the first studio album called Popgun was released, produced by Roland Spremberg.

Sonnit became famous in Germany as they performed as tour-support for Fury in the Slaughterhouse in spring 2002 during their "Color-Fury"-Tour.

Between summer 2002 and 2003 their first single Heaven Is Close became a radiohit and circled three months in the airplaycharts. The accomanying video rotated the music television channel Viva for four weeks.

Im Summer 2003 the video for the single Get Your Mind Free was produced in cooperation with Greenpeace. During the occupation of a sawmill of a wood import company the lack of import restrictions for rainforest wood was brought attention to.

Ever since Get Your Mind Free became the official hymn for Greenpeace in the fight against deforestation the band was named missionary of Greenpeace for this topic.

Despite various glamorous festival- and televisiongigs between 2002 and 2004, the Popgun-Tour in Autumn 2002 as well as the tour-support for parts of the Simple Minds-Tour in Germany in summer 2003, the band didn't achieve a commercial breakthrough yet.

In 2004 Holger Jung and Ralf Rathjen left the Band.

Since then a musical redirection into Arthouse Pop took place.

Their second album was completed in Spring 2007 on which the band had been working since Winter 2003. A publication is planned for Autumn 2007.
