Sonia Faleiro

Sonia Faleiro is an award-winning Indian journalist and writer. She was born in Goa and has lived in New Delhi and Edinburgh. She is currently based in Mumbai.
The Girl (Viking, 2006) is her first novel, and was published to critical acclaim. A short story, 'Stupid', is featured in First Proof : The Penguin Book of New Writing From India II.[1] Her short story 'Outkast D'Souza' appears in Reflected in Water: Writings on Goain November, 2006.[2]
She is currently writing her second book, a non-fiction account of Mumbai's dance bars, due for publication in 2008.
Sonia's non-fiction has appeared in India Today, The Indian Express, The Hindustan Times, Third World Resurgence, Tehelka, Time Out, Himal, Maxim, Marie Claire, Elle, and Travel +Leisure. She is Writer-at-Large, Tehelka, and Contributing Editor, Vogue (India).

Her reportage includes a six-part series on the bar dancers of Mumbai;The Dying of the Evening Stars; a six-part series on India's domestic workers; The Other Half, and extensive writings on the farmers suicides in Vidarbha; Death of a Son, Grandson, and All of Life's Dreams.
