Sonepur, also known as Sonapur or Subarnapur, is a city in Orissa state in eastern India. It is the administrative headquarters of Sonepur District. Sonepur was formerly the capital of a princely state of British India. For further information please visit http://subarnapur.nic.in

As of 2001 India census,[1] Sonepur had a population of 17,535. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Sonepur has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 82%, and female literacy is 65%. In Sonepur, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
