SON-T

A SON-T lamp is a type of High-Intensity Discharge lamp, specifically a High Pressure Sodium lamp. SON-T in this case stands for High Pressure Sodium, Tubular style. A SON-T is tubular like a cucumber and the SON-E is elliptical like a rugby ball.

The fundamental principal behind the lamp is that the narrow, monochromatic sodium resonance lines can be considerably broadened if the sodium vapour pressure is increased. ^[1]
