Talk:Somak Raychaudhury

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi I contest the rapid deletion on account of notability for the following reasons:

(i) This stub was created as an internal link from the item "Shapley Supercluster". Dr Raychaudhury is the discoverer of this supercluster of galaxies which is of major astrophysical interest (reference in "Nature" cited, from 1989).

(ii) More than 75 publications: http://adsabs.harvard.edu/cgi-bin/nph-abs_connect?db_key=AST

(iii) One of the core papers of the Fast moving frontw 2004 http://esi-topics.com/fmf/maps/september2004-map.html was Saini, Raychaudhury, Sahni and Starobinsky Phys. Rev. Lett. 85, 1162 - 1165 (2000) http://prola.aps.org/abstract/PRL/v85/i6/p1162_1 came from Saini's PhD thesis under Raychaudhury's supervision. This paper has 146 citations on the ISI Web of Knowledge

(iv) Few Articles in the press:

"The quest for the golden lens: a perfect alignment of massive objects would offer clues to the rate of cosmic expansion - Out There"
  Natural History, September 2003
 BBC radio 4
 New Scientist 09 December 1989

[edit] Notability Issue

There is no issue in terms of the notability of Somak Raychaudhury. The basic issue is that the specific article on Dr. Raychaudhury fails to specify his achievements beyond stating that he has 45 publications. That, in itself, does not constitute notability. Rather, you need to discuss, at least briefly, what he did and why that is important. Thank you. TBird68 15:01, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
