Coordinates: 18°56′N 84°36′E / 18.93, 84.6 Sompeta ( Telugu: సోంపేట, Hindi: सॊंपॆट ) is a census town and Mandal headquarters in Srikakulam district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

Sompeta is located at 18.93° N 84.6° E.[1] It has an average elevation of 8 metres (26 feet).

As of 2001 India census,[2] Sompeta had a population of 17,390. Males constitute 49% of the population and females 51%. Sompeta has an average literacy rate of 63%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 72%, and female literacy is 54%. In Sompeta, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

  • Sompeta is trading center of coconut coir and even exports coir to other states.
  • Arogyavaram Eye Hospital, Premier eye hospital of the Srikakulam district is established in 1939. It is highly Sophisticated and fully equipped. Efficient team of doctors perform around 5000 cataract surgeries. It is supported by Operation Eyesight Universal of Canada, which owes its birth to this hospital. This hospital is the referral centre for eye care in a radius of 200 kilometers.
  • Community Health Centre of Andhra Pradesh Vaidya Vidhana Parishad with 30 in-patients is located here.[3]
  • There is a post office in Sompeta

Sompeta is an Assembly Constituency in Andhra Pradesh. However, Sompeta Assembly Constituency ceases to exist as an assembly constituency as per the delimitation process [4] recently carried out. Part of the constituency includes Sompeta mandal will be part of Ichchapuram Assembly Constituency. The other part makes into the newly formed Palasa Assembly Constituency.
