In this picture some safety measures are notified when integrating a tram track and a tram stop with an urban environment:
1) A crosswalk for pedestrians. Traffic legislation may require the tram to give way for pedestrians on a crosswalk.
2) The border of a tram stop on the track side shows a different color giving the passengers an idea on the danger zone.
3) Tram tracks are separated from car lanes.
4) Separate traffic lights for trams. These traffic lights communicate with the conventional red-green-blue traffic lights for other traffic.
5) Traffic lights for car traffic and pedestrians. Traffic lights may have detectors noticing cars and giving them green light, and push buttons for pedestrians, making the traffic more flexible.
6) A barrier separates the tram stop from car lanes.
In addition, trams and cars might have a speed limit near the tram stops.
