[edit] Original research

I'd like to pitch in to this article, but can't do so without discussing the similarity between some of the sculpture on the monument and a work created by François Rude for the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. I have never seen this connection made before (tho it probably has been discussed somewhere) - making this the kiss-of-death original research. I probably can supply pictures to back this claim but am not going to do so if it's just going to get removed. So, I'm looking fo a second (3rd, 4th and 5th would be good too) opinion. eeeek aka 19:52, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Make sure you can find at least 1 reference for this, it might help if you read through this first. HoosierState 20:18, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for getting back to me. I am fairly well acquainted with wikipedia's views of original research and frequently choose to use them as guideline and not rules. The rather small pond of American Sculpture Research frequently does not provide the documentation that are needed to fully explain things such as this monument. So I do what I can and am in some cases overruled, or speedily deleted or whatever, but mostly am not. However when folks point the rules at me I typically decide not to contribute. Life is too short and there are too many other things to do where my knowledge and understanding of American sculpture is appreciated. Anyway, thanks for your prompt and direct reply to my query. There's also the fifth pillar Wikipedia:Ignore all rules... In this case, though, I'm not sure what connection you'd draw between the monument in Indianapolis and the Arc de Triomphe, which was built 90 years earlier on a different continent. Mingusboodle (talk) 01:27, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
