[edit] About the Municipality
[edit] The name Solund
The name (Norse Sólund, Sólundir plural) originally belonged to the islands of Sula. The meaning of the name is unknown.
Until 1890 the name of the municipality was Utvær - it was then changed to Sulen. The spelling was altered to Solund in 1924.
In Norse times the sea between Norway and Scotland was called Sólundarhaf which means: the sea (haf) of Solund.
