Sollefteå is a town (8,700) in Ångermanland, Sweden and the seat of Sollefteå Municipality, Västernorrland County.
Sollefteå developed as municipalsamhälle (a kind of borough remaining part of its original municipality), got the title of a market town köping in 1902 a city in 1917. It is now the seat of the much larger Sollefteå Municipality. Sollefteå is, despite its small population, for historical reasons normally still referred to as a city. Statistics Sweden, however, only counts localities with more than 10,000 inhabitants as cities.
