Soldeu
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Soldeu is a city / parish in Andorra.
Soldeu comes alive in the winter months as a skiing town. The skiing is on the 193km Grandvalira ski area, the largest area in the Pyrenees. This can be accessed from Encamp, Canillo, El Tarter, Soldeu, Grau Roig, Pas de la Casa and Porte des Neiges. The Soldeu Ski School has a large number of primary English speaking instructors and has won awards for the quality of its tuition.
The village is at 1710 metres and the top of the ski area is at 2580 metres. The gondola from the village rises to 2250 meters where the ski and board schools as well as restaurants are located. From here is possible to ski to the top of the El Tarter gondola or the village of El Tarter itself via the blue rated 'gall de bosc' run.
Although there are a number of bars and restaurants providing a lively après-ski, the village is more family orientated than neighbouring Pas de la Casa. There are a number of ski shops as well as an exclusive snowboard shop in the town, called 'LOADED' The native language is Catalan. Due to the large number of British and Irish tourists English is widely spoken in shops and restaurants.
