Sohrab
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sohrab or Suhrab (Persian: سهراب) is one of Shahnameh's characters. His story is told in Rostam and Sohrab. He was the son of Rostam (Shahnameh's greatest hero) and Tahmineh (daughter of the king of Samangan). He was born and grew up in Samangan (Samangan Province in what is now Afghanistan), whilst his father was in a different part of Iran.
He became a great local hero and decided to go to his father's town and make his father the king [of Iran]. Afrasiab, the Turanian king, took the opportunity and supplied him with a great army. Finally Sohrab was killed by his father Rostam, while both were ignorant of the identity of one another.
The Shahnameh recounts that Sohrab looked like a 12-year-old child by the time he was just 1 month old.
This character is referenced to in The Kite Runner By Khaled Hosseini.
