SOHO China Limited (SEHK: 410), founded in 1995, is a real-estate company in Mainland China. It is engaged in the development and sales of commercial properties in Beijing city centre. The founders are Pan Shiyi(潘石屹), a former Oil Ministry employee, and his wife Zhang Xin(张欣), a former Goldman Sachs employee.[1] The couple ranked the 237th richest 'person' in China a Forbes ranking in 2006.[2]
The company focussed on acquiring properties in Beijing's Central Business District[1], and has developed over 15.5 million square meters of space there, about twenty percent of the CBD.[3] Their first project, SOHO New Town(现代城), went on the market in 1998 and completed construction in December 2001. The company currently owns the commercial-used lands in Beijing, including "SOHO Modern City", "Jianwai SOHO", "Chaowai SOHO" and "Guanghualu SOHO". In addition, it owns two properties of "Commune by the Great Wall" in Beijing and "Boao Kempinski" on Hainan Island. It is also developing Sanlitun, the most famous and the busiest bar area in downtown Beijing.
On 8 October 2007, SOHO China was listed in the Hong Kong Stock Exchange with capital raising of HK$12.8 billion.
The company's name stands for a development concept that they pioneered - Small Office Home Office - for combined living and working spaces.
