[edit] Was the extermination of Native Americans in the U.S. genocide?

The case has been made by some that the violence decimation of Native Americans from the United States was a form of genocide, which some have even called the "American Holocaust." The issue has prompted much debate and controversy.

• At least one contemporaneous written account and also one seemingly credible recorded oral history suggest there were at least two instances where smallpox was deliberately spread to Native Americans in the U.S., via blankets and other gifts.^[1]
