This page has pretty strange contents to me. In my opinion Software development pretty much equals Computer programming. What has Marketing and New product development in common with Software development???--Kozuch (talk) 21:49, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

- Only if you believe the term is an exact parallel to a different industry. I have never seen the term software development used for anything other than computer programming. I've never heard of a software developer who does anything but computer programming (well, perhaps testing, Q/A and maintenance... unless the company is very small and can't afford to hire a marketing/sales staff). From my understanding, the term 'development' comes from "Research and Development", not from something like "Real Estate Development". - Okay, after looking into it some more, this inclusion is basically related to some OR which has leaked onto Software Development. On a different note, what do neural networks have to do with the general software development process? Yes, artificial neural networks might be involved depending on the nature of the project, but that is a very specific (and extremely rare) thing, and would simply be part of the general program design. There are a lot of other specific things involved in software development, we couldn't just note all of them.
