Talk:Sock and Buskin (Brown University)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] An organization at Brown University should not be the primary referent of "Sock & Buskin" . . . however it is spelled
"Sock and Buskin" refers to the traditional masks of comedy and tragedy used as a symbol of theater, much as the caduceus is the traditional symbol of medicine, the barber pole is the traditional symbol of barbering, the three colored globes is the traditional symbol of pharmacy, and the club-shaped thingie is the traditional symbol of a pawnbroker.
I have every respect for the "student/faculty board that selects and produces the mainstage faculty-directed theatrical season at Brown University". But there is no way that it is appropriate for that to be the primary reference in Wikipedia for "Sock & Buskin".
It is notable that whoever wrote the entry for the organization at Brown University didn't even have the savvy to explain the origin of the name of that organization.Daqu 02:32, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
