Heraldry Section Change There wasn't room to explain on the history page, so I'll explain my change here, just in case. In the Heraldry section, the example is given of a name that was previously thought to be historical, but turns out to be modern, and therefore isn't passable anymore as an SCA name. The example given is "Rhiannon". I changed it to "Fiona", because the case of Fiona in the SCA is exactly that of the situation they were talking about. Rhiannon is not--it is a medieval Welsh name. It appears in the Mabinogion. Rhiannon, according to the heralds I've talked to, would fall into the same category as Branwen (my SCA name): yes, it's documentable as a period name. No, it's not documentable as a name that was used by everyday people in period, because it was the name of a mythical character/goddess, and there is currently no evidence that the Welsh used those names for their children. I know it's splitting hairs, and I don't yet know how to add documentation to a wikipedia entry, so if someone else can do that, it would be great. If you think I'm full of it, and change it back, I probably won't complain. Just thought it made more sense. RB3 (talk) 17:21, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
