Talk:Social Democratic Alliance
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The direct generic translation of the Icelandic is simply "Alliance". The contextualized name is problematic as the Alliance was formed through the merger of four different parties, out of which one was the Social Democratic. One might argue that the policies of the current party are Social Democratic, but the Alliance is not a direct continuity of the historical Social Democratic Party. -- Soman 09:11, 13 December 2005 (UTC) [Copied from WP:RM]

- Support. Comment: Soman is of course correct with the history. On the other hand the party uses the long name on its website, [1], but if Soman confirms that he still wants the move, I'll support. Stefán Ingi 13:43, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

- Comment. I still want to move the article. --Soman 14:01, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
- The move request has been completed. --HappyCamper 21:55, 25 December 2005 (UTC)
- Comment. My opinion is that the official name of the party should be used. The official name is "The Social Democratic Alliance".Tryggvia 22:17, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, that's what they seem to use in English - irrespective of what the literal translation of the Icelandic name is. I'll move it back unless someone objects. Haukur 13:26, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
