Established in 1977, the Society of Engineering Technologists (SET) is the official student organization for the Department of Engineering Technology at Texas Tech University. SET serves as an open forum in which students and professors meet to discuss issues effecting the department and college.
SET also serves students in a professional capacity by bringing in industry representatives to meet our members and present on the range of employment opportunities available.
SET hosts a golf tournament in April of each year which serves as the organizations primary fund raiser. It began in 2000 and was originally called "The 200X Society of Engineering Technologists Annual Golf Tournament". Beginning in 2008, the tournament's official name was changed to "The SET Invitational" in an effort to streamline the name and to present the event as a more formal occasion. Typically held as a four-man scramble at the Texas Tech Rawls Course, SET invites a number of engineering firms from around the nation to compete and play alongside students. By pairing students with members of the invited firms, the tournament also serves as a networking opportunity for both students and companies. There are also a number of events on the holes which in the past have included the Crazy Putter, Move Up the Tee, Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin.
