The Social Identification Mode of Deindividuation Effects (SIDE) is an interpersonal communication theory that proposes that despite offering fewer interpersonal cues, computer mediated communication is not necessarily impersonal; rather, impression formation online results in more socially categorical, rather than personal, impression of others.
