Social Distortion's seventh studio album is currently scheduled to be released sometime in 2008, according to an April 2007 interview with frontman Mike Ness[1], who first mentioned it in 2005. No official release date and title for the album have been set. It will also be the first Social Distortion album recorded without bassist John Maurer since 1983's Mommy's Little Monster. He is replaced by current bassist Brent Harding.
[edit] History
Ness first mentioned a follow-up to Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll in 2005 and told Crush Music Magazine that the band would start recording it towards the end of 2006, making it likely that it would be released in the following year.[2] Writing and rehearsing for the album began in mid-2006[3] and after the Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll tour was finished, Social Distortion started recording sessions during their holiday break.[4]
In July 2007, Ness spoke Billboard.com about the band's decision to make this album and whether it would include any unreleased songs. He had this to say:
“ |
We have a dozen ideas at least -- a lot of songs that didn't make the last record. They didn't make it not necessarily because they weren't good enough. I have demos from 1994 that I'm revisiting -- great ideas that didn't get finished. You know, maybe they needed a better chorus or something. Also, I just want to create some new stuff entirely. |

In December 2007, Ness told The Denver Post what the current status of the album was. He explains:
“ |
We're writing, and we're doing a new song in the set. But we have to stop performing live before we can do anything in the studio, but we keep booking work. We might get a rest one of these days. You really do have to stop for a while and get yourself into reflection time and get into writing mode before that can start. I can multitask, but it's really us having to say, "No more shows, we've got to start writing," and we won't be at that point until February at the earliest. |

As of 2008, the current status of the new album remains unknown. Right now, Social Distortion are on hiatus from touring and recording, due to Ness' solo commitments.
