Talk:Snorri Þorfinnsson

It is possible that Snorri was a male..as, duing that time, females most usually had the ending -dottir..
[edit] Mother's name ?
The entry for Freydís Eiríksdóttir mentions her as a possible mother, but then also states that other sources claim Gudridr Thorbjörnsdottir. This article lists Guðríður Eiríksdóttir as the mother's name (which looks very much like a mixture of those two earlier names). Any references for any of these would be appreciated. - I wrote a fairly detailed synopsis at Grœnlendinga saga and a quick glance at Eiríks saga rauða seems to agree that Guðríðr Þorbjarnardóttir was the mother. Haukur 22:36, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
- And those are the only two detailed primary sources on the Norse exploration of North-America, if you read those two you're good. There are translations online but beware of the confusing nomenclature. Haukur 22:39, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

- Thanks for the quick reply. Not being familiar with Icelanding names, can I take it that your reply means that the mother's name in this article should be changed to Gudridr Thorbjörnsdottir (I'm assuming that this is equivalent to ON:Guðríðr Þorbjarnardóttir)? If yes, then I take it that the entry for Freydís Eiríksdóttir should not make any reference to this article. I'm not asking you to make these changes, just whether that would be correct based on the information available. ThreeBlindMice 23:31, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] too much material about other unrelated stuff
fully half of this article is about others living over 500 years later -- a kind of useless rebuttal of the speculation that Snorri was the earliest euro birth. The whole section starting "The first documented" is irrelevant and should go. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 206.248.138.150 (talk) 03:26, 28 January 2007 (UTC).
