Snowtown wind farm, as of May 2008, is under construction near Snowtown in the Mid-North of South Australia around 150 km north of the state capital, Adelaide. It is being built on the Barunga Range, a north-south trending ridge of the Mount Lofty Ranges.
At the end of May 2008 ten turbines were operational, six others were constructed but not generating power. Another 18 towers were partly built.
When completed the wind farm will consist of at least 47, and up to around 150, turbines each having a rated 2.1 MW capacity. First power went to the grid in December 2007 and completion is due in late 2008.
The wind farm is being constructed by Suzlon Energy Australia Pty. Ltd. It is owned by Trust Power.
