[edit] History
Snowman began playing regularly around Perth's local music scene in 2003 and have gained a solid live reputation in the following years.
Their sound has been described as post punk experimentalism with elements of rockabilly, surf rock and punk blues[citation needed]. Their recordings add odd atmospherics usually described with references to western soundtracks[citation needed].
Snowman have performed numerous local supports in Perth for touring acts such as Mclusky, Spoon, the Stranglers, Sons and Daughters and Wolfmother. 2005 & 2006 saw them perform high profile national tours in support of Interpol, Regurgitator, Wolf & Cub and Mint Chicks, and Liars.
In 2005 the band were nominated for six WAMi Awards: 'Most Popular Act', 'Most Popular Single / EP', 'Most Popular Live Act', 'Favourite Newcomer', and 'Most Promising New Act & Best Punk Act', winning the 'Favourite Newcomer' award.
In 2006 the band were again nominated for a couple of WAMi Awards: 'Most Popular Live Act' and 'Best Male Vocalist', with Andy Citawarman getting the 'Best Male Vocalist Award'. 2006 also saw them sign a deal to Melbourne based indie label Dot Dash, and record an album with Perth producer David Parkin at Blackbird Studio. The self titled album, Snowman, was released 23 September 2006[1] to very positive reviews[2][3].
Snowman recently appeared at the Meredith Music Festival in December 2006, on the Australian legs of the 2007 Big Day Out music festival[4], and at the St Jerome's Laneway festivals in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane[5].
At the 2007 WAMi Awards Snowman won three WAMingtons for 'Most Popular Album' (Snowman), 'Most Popular Music Video' ("You Are A Casino") and 'Best Rock Act'[6].
"You Are A Casino" was released as a limited 7" single in the UK on June 25, 2007 on the Passport Label, through Forte Distribution [7]
Since then, Snowman have furthered their local popularity, gaining a cult following in the south west area of Western Australia, which can be attributed to their highly energetic live sets, and the sense of atmosphere created at live snowman gigs.
In January 2008, Snowman announced that they were recording their second album with David Parkin.[8]
On May 1st, 2008, Dot Dash released a news article about the new Snowman album, releasing it's album cover, tracklisting, and release date[9]. The Horse, The Rat and The Swan will be released on May 24th, and the first single is "We Are The Plague" which can be heard on their MySpace page.
