- SMTH, a term used in British railway signal engineering referring to the Signal Maintenance Testing Handbook, a document maintained by Network Rail and used by signal engineers maintaining on Network Rail infrastructure to properly test signalling equipment after renewal or replacement. The IRSE maintenance tester licence is necessary to undertake this role on Network Rail infrastructure.
