[edit] Pre-Independence
SMP Negeri 5 Bandung has been exist since the age of the colonization of the Dutch, in the early years 20th century. It was built in around 1920, in the name of MULO, which means "widen-low school", the same degree as "junior high school". The Dutch colonist built the school. Most of the pupils are Dutch, but there are also some other ethnics, such as Arabic, Chinese, Indian, and other ethnics, but the Indonesians themselves couldn't join the classes, because the Dutch made a regulation that the school isn't for the Indonesians. The study took 5 years, from Year 1 to Year 5.
But when the Japanese took over the colonization in around 1940's, they changed it's name and function from MULO to Kompetai, which the function was a torture chamber.
[edit] Post-Independence
After Indonesia gained independence, and the Indonesian government took the control over, the function of Kompetai was switched back to an educational building with the same name, MULO.
