[edit] External links
Please take a look at the external link guidelines: WP:EL. Links must be directly and symmetrically related to the content of the article to warrant linking. Adding the same url to several articles in violation of WP:EL is viewed as a form of linkspam (although the link itself does not lead to a spam site.) Please consider carefully the proper article on which this seemingly good link belongs. Nposs 02:33, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
- For example, it might be most appropriate for the Irish Canadian article. I've left the link there for the time being. Nposs 02:38, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Your edit to Land Force Command (Canada)
Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, the external links you added to the page Land Force Command (Canada) do not comply with our guidelines for external links. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links; nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you.
- Please stop spamming that link, consider using it as a reference while adding content to documents. Thank you. --Dirk Beetstra T C 15:02, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Help
If you have some specific questions, I might be able to help you or direct you to a good source of information. Just let me know. Nposs 16:32, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, Nposs! I'm learning as I go, and I do also really appreciate your letting me know as you fix my mistakes! By the way (if you're getting this message), what's the best way to reply to other users when they post on my talk page? Smobri 17:17, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
- Most of the time, the best thing is to continue the discussion where it began. You can check the "watch" tab at the top of any page. Any changes will then appear on your "watchlist" (linked in the upper right corner of the page when you are logged in.) For example, I've put your user talk page on my "watchlist" so I saw that you had made a change to it. Of course, sometimes editors don't do this and new editors might be unaware of this practice. You might place a note on their talk page noting that you have added to the ongoing discussion at a different location. More information on using talk pages. Let me know if you have any other questions. Nposs 18:15, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Medicine in Canada
The article Canada is a featured article and thus has some specific guidelines that it has to be abide to stay a featured article. A section as you added with no content does not pass featured articles status, and secondly, a section on Medicine in a country is not one of the sections that should be in a country, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Countries. A better way of adding a link is to add it in one of the templates at the bottom of the Canada article. Jeff3000 17:58, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
- Just trying to figure it all out, and your explanation is very helpful. Thanks, Jeff. Smobri 18:16, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] re: Adoption
Hi Smobri,
I see you're looking to be adopted. I've been around Wikipedia for a while and I can probably answer most questions you might have. I'd be happy to adopt you until you feel you know your way around. Let me know if you'd like my help or if you'd rather wait for a different adopter.

- That's great, killing sparrows! I'm just checking out your talk page with Coelacan and learning a lot just from that. I'll be sure to contact you as questions pop up. Many thanks! Smobri 12:51, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
-
- Alrighty then, I'll change the 'adoption' box on your user page.
-
- I think it works best to have a dedicated page for adopter/adoptee conversations and have created one here. I am on WP throughout the day and usually late into the night (I'm currently in GMT-8) so I should be able to respond pretty quickly when you have a question. I will probably look over your user page, talk page and contributions now and then just to see how you are doing but otherwise I'll wait for you to ask questions. Fire away!--killing sparrows (chirp!) 13:40, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] External links.
Hi, I have reverted your last two edits (I noticed that I already earlier also reverted additions of the same domain on several pages). The subjects are indeed related, but not fully symmetrical. Moreover, please note that wikipedia is not a linkfarm, that a link exists does not mean that it has to be on a page. That a library or a museum has material on a subject does not warrant a link, nearly all libraries will have material on the subject counterfeit, and certainly not all libraries need to be linked (and that is also where the symmetry is a bit lost). Instead, try to see if the site has specific information that can be incorporated in the document (use it as a reference). Hope this explains, have a nice day! --Dirk Beetstra T C 18:17, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, Dirk -- the link is to a virtual museum exhibition (and not to a library per se) on the subject of forgery and counterfeit ("Fakes, Forgeries and Trickery"), and I'm confident that the website's content is directly and symmetrically related to the articles "Forgery" and "Counterfeit". However, as you suggest, I'll instead contribute some of its content and cite the website as the source. Thanks -- Smobri 18:41, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] A note for you
Hi Smobri, I left a note for you on the adoption talk page, not sure if you have it on your watch list yet.--killing sparrows (chirp!) 21:25, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] McLuhan
Hello - please see Talk:Marshall McLuhan about removed sections. I don't agree with the removal, but it's good to have another editor on the project. Tvoz |talk 18:51, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hi - I responded on the McLuhan talk page - but please note that no material was missing - I merged all of it back into McLuhan yesterday before I redirected. It is in its own sub-section of Marshall McLuhan, with a header so it appears in the TOC which is important. So, please take another look. Tvoz |talk 17:28, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Montreal procedure
Hi Smorbri,
I've removed your "See also" links to Montreal procedure. Generally Wikipedia discourages links in "See also" sections — preferring to provide wikilinks within the body text. For example: Neurology is a huge subject. If every neurological test, procedure or physician were listed, the See also section would be huge. The Seizure article is focused on the symptom, not the treatment for the chronic disease: Epilepsy. The Epilepsy article does have a section on surgery, which is where such a procedure might be mentioned. I have no doubt this procedure was important (see Who Named It) but am less sure it is relevant to day (it was 60 years ago). A search on Google and at PubMed returns remarkably few results, if this is still a modern operation. If a History of epilepsy article is written, I'm sure it would be included. I'd love to write such an article, but just don't have the time at present.
Thanks for your contributions. I hope you aren't discouraged. It is valuable to document minor (possibly forgotten) things. Wikipedia has room for them. But we need to maintain perspective when linking from the big topics. Cheers, Colin°Talk 17:13, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for your advice, Colin; I'll try, instead, to build wikilinks into the body text of more-or-less directly related articles where appropriate -- being sure to maintain perspective. :-) Cheers! --Smobri 17:36, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Wikibreak notice
Hi There Smobri,
I will be on break for a week while travelling to Saint Paul Island, Alaska. I hope all is going well! If you need help while I am offwiki please go to the WP:ADOPT talk page. Cheers!--killing sparrows (chirp!) 18:04, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
