Smooth Man Automatic

Smooth Man Automatic was a San Diego punk band from the mid-1990s.
They released one self-titled seven inch record, released in 1995 on Lolita Records. The band is most noteworthy for featuring the late guitarist Eric Allen, from the infamous southern Californian hardcore band Unbroken. The band also featured Michael Messina on Vocals, Jason Gray on Drums, Dave Fidrych on Bass and Cliff Cunningham (struggle) on guitar. Messina, Gray and Fidrych went on to form The Heavyweight Champions which had regional success in San Diego and Los Angeles. Michael Messina now helps run the influential underground heavy metal label Southern Lord Recordings and manages a few rock bands. Dave Fidrych works for the Killers as a stage manager.
Eric Allen committed suicide in the late 1990s.
